Makartsev, visiting archpriest Anatoly Kaznovetsky, visiting archpriest Evgeniy Ambartsumov in the hospital.

May – a trip to the USSR. Lecture on clergy at the conference “Theology and Spirituality of the Russian Orthodox Church” in Moscow, interview for the Russian Orthodox Church Publishing Council.
1988
March – a trip to the USSR. Pre–Council meeting in Moscow.
June – a trip to the USSR, participation in the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in connection with the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Russia. He raised the question of the refusal to allow participation in the Council of Militsa Zernova and the role of women in the witness to Christ and the preservation of the Church during the years of persecution. Meetings at homes, talks, also with teenagers, “Family” (the first publication in the USSR).
1989
October – a trip to the USSR. Participation in the Council of Bishops on the occasion of the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Patriarchate. The first (and only) public talk in Moscow, in the Artist’s House.
1990
June – a trip to the USSR with archpriest John Lee and churchwarden Anna Garrett; participation in the Local Council of Bishops, election and enthronement of Patriarch Alexy II.
